What strategies would you use in developing further teaching units to address Aboriginal perspectives in Science?

First of all, I would use more Aboriginal people in the classroom. They have the knowledge, so why not use it. The other thing I'd like to see is for the whole school to take on some sort of in-servicing, if you could call it that, on Aboriginal culture, so that when they get into the classroom they have more of an understanding of the people.

Firstly, I'd make use of the local resources that we have in the area: the Wiradjuri Heritage Study, local museums, and especially people in the Aboriginal community. I'd also try to incorporate small tasks into a lot of units, rather than teaching a separate unit based on Aboriginal perspectives.

I would continue to use a strategy that the group used for this project. We used a document called “The Wiradjuri Heritage Study” and that was used as a stimulus for a lot of the items that we developed.
