Who was involved?
Teachers of Science from the Wagga Wagga, Newcastle/Central Coast, Wollongong and Mt Druitt regions in NSW readily agreed to participate in the project. They worked in partnership with members of their local Aboriginal communities and were mentored by district Science and Aboriginal Education consultants.
Reflective journals were kept throughout the project by all of the teachers and mentors. The journals helped to inform the thinking and understanding of the participants and were important in developing collaboration and consistency. There are ideas and suggestions in the journals that teachers might find useful when planning and programming to integrate Aboriginal and Indigenous cross-curriculum content into teaching and learning experiences.
In each story the Reflective Journal section provides audio and transcripts of comments by Aboriginal community members, project teachers and mentors in relation to evaluation questions. These comments provide helpful ideas and insights for developing school-based resources.
