Practical advice

Aboriginal language programs are unique because they are cases of language revival, which is a complex process that takes a long time and in some places is only just beginning. One aspect of the complexity is that each team member brings various skills that the other team members might not be aware of. It helps to share some of that knowledge. Another aspect of complexity is that all NSW Aboriginal languages are undergoing some form of linguistic reconstruction and so understanding something of linguistics is required by some team members.

Three topics that schools and communities have consistently requested information about are:

  • planning and programming
  • linguistic matters
  • funding and endorsement.

In the sections that follow advice on these three topics will be provided and each year this will be updated.
